One Week In, Nine To Go

It's been a mostly eventful week for the Tiny Human: parties, steering committees, and non-verbal communication.

Today the Tiny Human decided to add to her repertoire of non-verbal communication (hooray for evidence of development). She's had a pretty steady hand-push/slap when she doesn't want things (mostly when she doesn't want someone to clean the snot from her face), and she does all kinds of clever things (and some painful biting) when she's hungry, so we were pretty happy to see her do some hand-clapping that loosely resembles the hand-brushing we do when we're done eating. There was probably a high-five today as well. Still working on hello and goodbye waves, but let's call that progress.

As it was my first week home with her in a while, I also got to see a lot of the TH's circle of friends. As much as walking is her favourite thing, other kids, especially older ones, is the best thing to ever happen. Ever! Parties wear her out, but wow does she love playing or trying to play with other kids.

Also, I call her Tiny Human because it breaks my back holding her hands to walk around with her. Even though I know she measures off the charts for height at her doctor's appointments, and her clothing size is more than double her age, she's still pretty small. However, seeing our TH standing next to one- and two-year-olds really drives home the fact that she is tall.

What hammered TH's towering height home most was the monthly steering committee meeting for the Mount Sinai Rock N' Stroll event. Kate's post from a couple of weeks ago caught the attention of the PR people at Mount Sinai; we raised funds for last year's inaugural walk, but this year we signed up to do more. At the monthly steering committee I met a couple of parents who talked about the excitement of having their children finally hit the first percentile on the height/weight charts. As crazy and frightening as our birth story is, there is so much more than can go wrong, which is why we're so enthusiastic to make the second Rock N' Stroll event bigger and better than the first. (Which means that from May to September you'll be getting a lot of requests for donations from me).

The downside to all this non-verbal communication, weaning, teething, and playing is that TH has decided that she doesn't need to sleep. So I should probably be sleeping rather than typing ...

PS, the last post now has a picture of TH reading.
